Dohun Kim is the son of renowned Korean master potter Se-Yong Kim, who is widely recognized for his mastery of the dual-layered inlay technique in Goryeo celadon. Dohun is the second-generation successor and holds a doctorate in ceramic materials engineering. He worked a curator and director in international symposiums and has engaged in the integration of 3D printing technology with ceramics. His works have been showcased in the documentary "From Earth to Light" and featured in the video introduction of Korean pottery at the Korean Cultural Centers in LA and NY. Dohun established a traditional Korean pottery gallery in Boston, and continues his research and development of ceramic products.
Jonghwan Kim is a classical saxophonist, selected for the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation’s Young Artist Audition. Kim performed at various festivals and events in Paris, Bordeaux, and performed as a soloist with the Boston Pops (cond. Keith Lockhart) and at Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall). He also served as principal saxophonist of the festival wind orchestra at the 20th WASBE Festival (Gwangju-Gyeonggi, Korea), performing at the opening ceremony under the direction of Frank Ticheli. Following studies at Seoul National University (Korea) and the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional d’Aubervilliers (France), he earned a Master of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Boston University.
Hanna Lee, a Korean traditional dancer and choreographer, is actively performing and sharing the beauty of Korean traditional dance across various stages in Boston.
Through the Boston Academy of Korean Traditional Arts (BAKTA) and the Hanna Lee Korean Traditional Dance Institute, she practices with and teaches students and troupe members of various ages, dedicating herself to the authentic transmission of Korean traditional dance.
Last year, she presented diverse performances featuring Taepyeongmu in Boston, and on June 27th, the members of the Hanna Lee Korean Traditional Dance Institute won the Excellence Award with Taepyeongmu at the World Korean Traditional Performing Arts Competition.
"Great Drum Orchestra" is a work based on the original choreography by Master Kook Soo-ho, featuring a magnificent blend of grand energy from traditional Korean percussion and dynamic dance movements.
For tonight's stage, Ashley (12th Grade) and Kaitlyn (11th Grade) from Winchester High School, representing BAKTA, along with Catarina Kim and Nayoung Cho from the Hanna Lee Traditional Dance Troupe, join together to perform selected movements from Kook Soo-ho's "Great Drum Orchestra."
The performance will feature Movement 1, "Gutgeori(굿거리)," which opens the piece with profound resonance and the beauty of stillness in motion, followed by Movement 4, "Hwimori(휘모리)," delivering an exhilarating, high-energy finale.
Performers are Ashley Yuhan, Kaitlyn Kim, Catarina Kim, Nayoung Cho, and Hanna Lee.
